![]() ![]() Honda spokesman Chris Naughton explained that “based on consumer demand, we’ve adjusted the models’ trim structures to better align them to the market.” He specifically noted that the EX trim level and above have a standard Display Audio multimedia system with 7-inch touchscreen that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and their navigation apps. The former EX-L with navigation is gone, and the Touring is your choice to get an in-car navigation system. There are now four 2019 CR-V trim levels: the LX, EX, EX-L and Touring. As smartphones rule, a trim level is dropped. And fear not, conservative Honda shoppers: Four of the 10 still are black or shades of gray. Platinum White Pearl replaces White Diamond Pearl as one of the 10 paint colors in the CR-V palette, but it’s still white. Here’s what you need to know about the 2019 Honda CR-V: We’re eager to see how the CR-V matches up against its newer rivals, but in our most recent Compact SUV Challenge, the CR-V took on the redone Tiguan and they finished just 2 points apart, substantially ahead of the other five challengers. And Volkswagen’s 2018 redesign of the Tiguan has taken it from being invisible to a player in the market. ![]() Wild cards in that market this year, however, include a redesigned 2019 Toyota RAV4 and 2019 Subaru Forester. car market, and the CR-V remains a sales leader. Mainstream compact SUVs have emerged as a huge and very competitive piece of the overall U.S. ![]() You can see why Honda wouldn’t want to mess with success. I just browsed the update page for the new Accord…those Navi systems are still using DVD discs? I guess you could sell your old DVD.View all 2018 Honda CR-V models for sale near 60606 So it looks like they might code the map update to only work with your stereo and vehicle, which would prevent the re-sale of the USB flash drive, or using it in another Honda navi system. There is a disclaimer, "Your navigation system Device ID, Database Version Number and Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) are needed in order to purchase a map update". I just browsed the update page for my Civic, which uses the new USB flash drive for updates. So I have not purchased or used one of the new USB flash drive updates. I have a new Civic with Navi, so I have not updated the Navi map, and probably won't for a number of years. Now that the Honda maps are updated by USB-flash drives, I don't think you will be able to sell anything on eBay anymore…unless you can re-sell the USB flash drive that you purchase from Honda. I prefer using the Honda navi because it works when the cellphone fails due to poor service areas. I don't pay for unlimited data on my iPhone, so I am not wasting data with a Navi app. Road construction can take years to begin and complete, and then it does take time for that information to be updated on any GPS map system. They were $149 back in 2007, and remain that price today unless there is a $99 sale. I did not need one every year, but decided to buy one when the map data was 5 years old. So if the new map update does not affect your area, no need for an update. The Honda Navi website will provide you with new release information and what areas have been updated. So I recouped half the price on selling the old map disc. I had a 2007 map, and then updated it in 2011 when they were on sale for $99. If you are salesman who travels all the time to different areas, it may be worth it to update every year.Ĭlick to expand.I have been using the Honda Navi system since 2007, when it was DVD-based. NavTeq HAS to know what they changed year to year, but does not share that info. It would be really nice if we could see exactly what had been "updated" year to year before we shell out our money so we know if roads in our area had been changed or updated. So if you want to update, take advantage of the price now. Hondamaps does seem to offer this $99 sale once a year. I personally only up date every other year. With roads being built all the time, or altered, or closed, it's a nearly impossible task to keep absolutely up-to-date. So you can imagine how long it takes if they have to drive every mile of every road in the US. I saw a TV special once about how they hire people who drive around cities with a bunch of high tech cameras mounted on their cars and record the road details. When you think about it, the process is massive. Someone told me NavTeq updates maps on their own but they do it geographically, so they may drive thru the Northeast this year and the West next year. It speeds up the process if someone actually reports an error/correction to Navteq. Map corrections can sometimes take YEARS to make it onto the new maps. NavTeq also supplies the Maps for Garmin. it's NavTeq who supplies the Maps for The Honda GPS Units (which are made by Alpine). ![]()
